Professional Experience

Law wasn’t my first career. I first considered a career in law while I was working as a chemist in the semiconductor industry. I shadowed a few criminal defense attorneys in Portland and I knew that I wanted a career defending those the government has accused of committing crimes as I came to understand that defense counsel is a critical part of preserving our constitutional rights.

I attended law school at the University of Oregon focusing on criminal law and trial court Advocacy, honing my skills to prepare me for my career. During my studies, I worked at Public Defender Services of Lane County as a law clerk and then as a certified law student, learning a lot through my research, conducting my first trial, and filing a petition for a writ of mandamus with the Oregon Supreme Court.

Before joining Harris Velázquez Gibbens, I worked as a solo practitioner in Saint Helens, Oregon, taking on cases in a variety of practice areas including criminal law, family law, probate, and civil matters. I am thrilled to join a team of experienced highly regarded attorneys where I can continue to become the best defense attorney I can be.

My experience with other areas of law helps because it allows me to inform my client about how a criminal charge could affect other parts of their lives and how to limit or prevent any disruptions while we navigate issues within their criminal case.

I find that getting the best result for my client depends on trust and maintaining solid communication. Discussing the client’s past, present, and future allows me help them determine what goals to set as we begin the case. I make sure there are no surprises by engaging in clear communication about what the client should expect from the beginning to the end of a case. Being accessible to my clients ensures that they can ask for the information and advice they need to make good decisions.
